Just a thought

I have been toying with the idea of making a few videos and maybe some tech articles as I do this project. This video is not the best and would have been better if it had been shot in the car, but I don't have a tripod. See what you think.

Rustang

Actually working on the Mustang here!

Three words: LOTS of RUST!

No surprise here. I knew I would find lots of rust. I pulled the seats and the carpet tonight, and what I found was a few holes and a quite a bit of rust. I have seen worse so I am not too worried. The only thing that bothers me is the rust in the front panels.

As you can see below the interior is pretty ratty. I pulled the seats tonight which requires a 1/2inch deep-well socket and and extension. I suspect the drivers seat has been out of this car before because the plugs the cover the seat fasteners under the car were missing on the drivers side and there were only three nuts holding it in place.

I took this picture to remind me of how the brackets between the seats and the floor are installed.
Rhonda must have snapped this one while I wasn't looking. I just now noticed it myself. This is the worst of the rust. Yeah, that is a hole clear through the floorboard. It is right behind the drivers seat. Kinda scary.

While the rust here doesn't look as bad, it has me worried because this area usually rusts because the cowl is rusted. There is about 300 spot welds (not an exaggeration) that will have to be drilled out if I need to replace the cowl.

Hopefully there will be more this weekend!

I thought this was a Mustang Blog!?!?

Yeah, me too. If I get the garage cleaned out tomorrow, I hope to actually start working on the car this weekend. However, we have company coming at the end of the month, or first part of next month,-I forget- and preparations for that will take precedence. Priorities and all, you understand.

Shelving Complete

I thought I might get this done by Tuesday, but as it turns out Tuesday and Wednesday I felt like I was getting sick. I rested up and managed to get it done today. I had to take the day off because my dog had a err, umm... surgical procedure done today and needs someone around for a couple of days. I will have some time to clean out the rest of the garage tomorrow while Rhonda works on the office.

Anyways enough rambling. It isn't pretty, but here are the shelves I made out of left over wood. I think it might help the structural integrity of the side it is on at least.

Blood, Sweat, and Tears...

Well almost anyway. The blood and sweat for sure; the tears I managed to hold back. We did get the shed built this weekend though. For those that don't know, my weekends are Sunday and Monday. I still have some finishing touches to add, but we are moving stuff into it already. I am working on some shelving using the wood from the forms and some left over 2x4s from the fence we did last summer. Some might call this "cheap" I prefer waste not, want not. I'll add pictures of the shelving on Tuesday provided I finish them by then.

My thoughts on the shed

To sum things up: not very good. The sheet metal is extremely thin, and the whole thing relies on the triangulation of all this thin sheet metal. After finishing it up, however, I will say it is somewhat stronger than I would have imagined. I know, and some reading this do as well, these sheds will collapse under the weight of a good snow storm. I am betting I will not have to worry about that here in San Diego.
Rhonda and I agree, we are glad we did the cement rather than a raised wood floor. I think it fits our yard better, and it was flat enough that we didn't have to bring in a ton of fill dirt.

Okay enough chit-chat lets see some pictures already!

The security on these things is even less overwhelming than the building integrity so I installed one of these:

(Notice the tape-measure. He moonlights as a handyman. Hey, they say German Shepherd Dogs make great helper dogs.)

Pictures!

This is probably Craftsman's lower to middle of the pack toolbox. I didn't go all out and get the roller-bearing drawers, but I think it will do just fine. In total it has 15 drawers, and though you can't see them in the picture, it is on wheels. Like I mentioned last night, I got what I feel like was a good deal, and the unexpected $30 off at time of purchase made it even better @ $270 out the door.

I have been needing one of these for awhile. My current storage method is Rubbermaid plastic tubs. You can imagine what I go through when I need that 11/32 socket at the bottom of the bin.

Talk about incentive to get the shed finished this weekend. Rhonda will not allow this thing in the front room for very long. She might like the midnight blue finish, but I'm pretty sure she didn't want this as an end table.

New Tool Box!

I found a pretty good deal on a Craftsman Chest/Roll-along combo toolbox tonight online. So we jumped in the truck to see if they would match the price in the store. Not only did they match the price, but after joining the free Craftsman Club, I got an extra $30 off. No pics tonight because I just got home and it is nearly 11:00pm, but I'll get some up tomorrow.

Started the Shed

We started our shed today. No pics yet because the only thing we got done was the floor frame. I can't say for sure yet because it isn't finished, but these sheet metal sheds are pretty chinsey. You have to assemble the pieces before you can start, and they are all the same size so none of them fit together. It's a one size fits all deal that makes me feel like I could build a better structure out of Legos. Here's to hoping the weekend makes me feel better about this thing.

Not Exactly Working On The Mustang Here

Well, this had to be done in order to work on the Mustang. With my small garage I needed storage for miscellaneous parts. Not to mention the various other stuff in the house and garage that need to be out of the way. As you can see in the pictures we got the forms built and poured the concrete. The Cement truck didn't fit through my gate so we had to take the fence down for the truck to get close enough to the forms. I had B&D Concrete in Lemon Grove deliver the cement, and I would recommend them to anyone here in San Diego. The driver helped me "skreet" it, and bull floated it for me. Rhonda edged it, and I went over it with a Fresno. We gave it a broom finish, and I don't think it looks to bad for a couple of first-timers. We'll wait about a week before construction starts on the shed. I hope to have those pictures rolling in next week.
